Meelhuysen, Johan Benedictus
58, of Dayton, Ohio passed away on September 14, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Johan is survived by his wife of 40 years, Evelyn Meelhuysen, and their 3 children: Christopher (Rebecca), Michael (Robin), and Erin. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren; his father Leopold; his sisters Eleonora, Frederika, and Wilhelmina; and his brothers Hendrik and Victor. Johan was born in Indonesia and spent time in the Netherlands as a young child before immigrating to the United States with his family. He became a U.S. citizen in 1967. Johan graduated from Carl Hayden High School and attended Glendale Community College before serving in the military. Johan served in the U.S. Army for 6 years and was stationed in Mannheim, Germany before being honorably discharged in 1984 with medals for Meritorious Service and Good Conduct. After his military service, Johan became a CNC Machinist and enjoyed a long career in machining until his illness. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Johan enjoyed spending his free time fishing, camping, gardening, and interacting with his cats Oliver and Peewee. His ever-present humor and vivid imagination will be missed by all. A memorial service for Johan will be held Thursday, October 6 at Central Methodist Church, 1875 N Central Ave, at 10am followed by a gathering of family and friends at Valley Garden Center, 1809 N. 15th Avenue, from 11am-2pm.
