Kent, John Cephas
John Cephas Kent, 82, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on February 9, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Yvonne A (Smith) Kent & daughters Debra J Hague & her significant other, Brice Lanpher, of St. Albans, VT & Kendra E Surdam & her husband Timothy E Surdam of Nashua, NH, as well as 4 grandchildren, Jason Cox, Greg Cox, Randi Michelle Cox & Ryan Surdam, & several great grandchildren. John was born 9/30/1933 in Dorset, VT to Robert D. and Hazle (Alexander) Kent and was a 6th direct descendant of Deacon Cephas Kent, a Dorset VT tavern owner in whose establishment the Green Mountain Boys held their meetings in the 1700s that led to Vermont's independence & the adoption of its Constitution. He grew up in Manchester VT & attended Burr & Burton Seminary. Patriotism ran deep in his veins & he felt his call to duty in 1954 when he joined the United States Air Force. He served his country and fellow Americans proudly & faithfully for 22 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1976. After retiring from the USAF, he worked for IBM for many years in Essex Junction VT & Tucson AZ. He was deeply proud of being an American and was a loving husband and father and a gentleman who was worshipped by his 3 girls who will miss him more than we can say. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 17 from 1-3 p.m. with a memorial service following at 3 pm at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E Bell Road, Scottsdale AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's honor to Wounded Warriors. Online condolences may be made at www.hansenmortuary.com.
