1942 - 2016 Obituary Condolences

John Ioannnou, 73, passed away suddenly on July 12, 2016, in Phoenix Arizona. He was born December 16, 1942 in Phoenix. John was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Christina Ladas Ioannou. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1961 and served 20 years in the Air National Guard. He was a life-member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association. John retired from the city of Phoenix after 35 years. He was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Peoria and served on the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Phoenix and a member of the AHEPA. John was active in many clubs including the Lions Club, Japanese America Citizens League, Arizona American Italian Club, Sheriff's Posse, Mustang Car Club, and more recently, the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He loved going to the Senior Centers and socializing with his many friends. John was a people person, never knew a stranger, was generous to a fault and could be stubborn by doing things his own way. He is survived by his beloved sister, Melani, aunts Stella Glitsos and Tassie Ladas, and many, many cousins. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 PM at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix AZ. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Cathedral Friday, July 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM and burial will take place at 12:30 PM at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix.
