Casserly, John Joseph
of Rolla, formerly of Prescott, AZ, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at the age of 89. John J. "Jack" Casserly was the son of Irish immigrants. He was a veteran foreign and Washington correspondent, primarily with ABC news and Hearst. Early in his career, he was a reporter on the Milwaukee Sentinel and a writer for CBS News in New York. He served 10 years as a foreign correspondent -- seven in Rome, Italy and covered five wars - Korea, Algeria, Lebanon, Vietnam and the Dominican Republic. In Washington, he covered the White House and Congress for ABC. Casserly was later a White House speechwriter for President Ford. He was an editorial writer and columnist for the Arizona Republic for six years. His last full-time post was as the editorial assistant to William Randolph Hearst, Jr., editor-in-chief of the Hearst newspapers. Casserly was a 1985 Harvard Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government. He was a longtime member of the Overseas Press Club of New York and the Authors Guild in New York. Casserly won numerous journalism awards. He was graduated from the Marquette University Journalism School in 1951. He was married for 60 years to his wife Joy Ruth Price Casserly whom preceeded him to God's care in November of 2015. He is survived by: his sister Marion, four sons and 9 grandchildren. As his life closed he had one message and that is to cherish your family and spend as much time as you can with those you love.....nothing else matters.
