Randel, Larry Don
died suddenly at the age of 55 on December 21, 2015 in Sherwood, OR. Larry, son of Herbert and Barbara Randel, was born January 28, 1960 in Phoenix, AZ. A Northern Arizona University graduate with Journalism degree, he served as U.S. Air Force AWACS Instructor with 963rd and 966th squadrons from 1986 to 1992. Following Desert Shield and Desert Storm service, the family relocated to Portland, Oregon. His most recent position was technical writer for Rockwell Collins. Larry had a passion for model airplanes and was an active leader in the International Plastic Modelers Society and Oregon Historical Modelers Society serving as a local officer, webmaster, junior modelers mentor, producing the OHMS Newsletter Monthly for more than a decade and instrumental in organizing annual OHMS model shows and holiday gatherings. He will be remembered for his passion for accuracy and factual details as evident throughout his models and his writing. Larry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lori, son Alex (Lauren), daughter Amy, brother John, half-sister, Nancy, in-laws and cousins in Arizona. A service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona (23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ) Friday, January 8, 2016, 1:30 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Larry's life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Models for Troops program, or other Veteran's group of your choice, in Larry's honor.
