Louise Johanna Bubel Obituary
Bubel, Louise Johanna
Mrs. Louise Johanna (Schafer) Bubel, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18th, 2016, at home with her loving family at her side. Louise spent her blessed lifetime as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and friend to all. She expressed her love and support for her family from the very first day she married her husband and lifelong partner, Gordon Bubel, on March 6th, 1954. During their nearly 62-year marriage they raised 6 children and were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Though petite and short in stature, she showed her strength in her love and patience. She never faltered and met every one of life's challenges. Through her selfless commitment to raising her children she taught them what is truly important in life. With her quiet and gentle way she always offered an ear or helping hand when needed. She will always be remembered for leaving us with, "God's blessing," and, "Drive carefully." Louise, while raising her six children, was also a very hardworking career woman committed to meeting her job responsibilities throughout her working life. She was also an active member of her church and charities. After raising her six children she had the good fortune of being able to enjoy a long retirement that allowed her and her husband to travel and vacation to many special places in the United States and Europe. Louise was born on July 20, 1936, in Utica, NY, where she was raised by her loving parents, the late Emma (Chambrone) and Albert Schafer. She attended Utica Free Academy and was a proud member of the Omega Phi Delta sorority. After her husband's enlistment in the Marine Corps in North Carolina, she raised her children in Utica, NY, for 11 years, and then 14 years in Clark Mills, NY. Later, after her six children were grown, she moved with her husband to Arizona. Special thanks and loving appreciation goes out to her daughter and our sister, Debra, a nurse and lifelong caregiver, for the love and care she gave to Mom during her time of need. Debra's commitment to her mother and others shows the legacy of love, strength, and dedication that our mother has left with us all. Aside from her husband, Gordon Bubel, she leaves behind her six children: Debra Smith of Glendale, AZ Mike Bubel (and Diane) of Huntersville, NC; Mark Bubel (and Lynn) of Apalachin, NY; Mariann Waucheck (and Jim) of Phoenix, AZ; Stephen Bubel of Glendale, AZ and Gordy Jr. of Phoenix, AZ. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Giacomina "Jackie" Doben of Beavercreek, Ohio, Adeline Penc of Utica, NY, and brother, Frank Schafer of Peoria, AZ. The family will honor and commemorate Louise's life at a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Louise's funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at 11 AM at St. John Episcopal Church, 4102 W. Union Hills Dr. Glendale, AZ 85308 where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Reverend Bruce Jackson. Committal prayers and interment will then take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 12:30 PM. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Louise's honor to The Food Pantry, 623-582-5449, 4102 W. Union Hills Dr. Glendale, AZ 85308-1702.
