Luella Virginia Mains

1920 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
Mains, Luella Virginia Tompkins
96, of Village at Ocotillo passed away on 3-29-2016. Luella passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Born 2-4-20 in Batesville, AK, raised on a Nebraska farm, she enjoyed and valued the simple things in life, while nurturing her devotion to God and family with genuine kindness, acceptance and unwavering strength of character. On 8-3-39, she married Floyd Tompkins on his birthday and was widowed fifty years later on her birthday. They had a thing about birthdays. At age seventy-three, she married Ted Mains. They enjoyed thirteen years together before he passed. June of 2000, Luella endured the loss of her oldest daughter, Karen Bowerman (Jon), while holding her hand. We told her we were there for her, expecting her to finally fall apart. She simply said, "That wouldn't do any good." Endearingly known as Lou, Mom, Grandma Dewy and G-Lou, Luella is survived by daughters, Marilyn Fults (Lee) and Nancy Higginbotham, grandchildren, Kelly Ridley (Kevin), Jodi Fults (A.J.), Tammy Passante (Phil), Tom Higginbotham, Tim Higginbotham, Scott (Sabrina) Higginbotham, Troy Bowerman, and thirteen great grandchildren who brought laughter and joy to her life. Of the many friends she valued, enjoying bingo, bocce, card games and Friday Happy Hour, she and Marie were always there for each other. Luella is and will forever be loved and missed.
