Lynn Rees Obituary
Rees, Lynn
98, of Mesa, AZ, passed to a better place on September 10th, 2016. Lynn was born on December 5th, 1917, in Pontlottyn, Wales to Llewellyn and Mary Jane (Wheeler) Rees. He came to the US at the age of five and the family settled in Orient, IL where his father was a coal miner. After a few years in Orient, they moved to Chicago where Lynn attended public schools. He graduated from high school in 1935 and enrolled at the Univ. of Illinois, receiving his diploma in 1939. He enlisted in the Army in July of 1941 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in January of 1946. He served in Europe and Japan. Prior to his discharge, Lynn married Gladys DeBerry, whom he had met in Laramie during Army training. They married in San Luis Obispo, California, in July of 1944, and were happily married for 61 years. After Lynn's discharge, they moved to Laramie where Lynn enrolled in the U of Wyo Law School, from which he received his law degree in 1948. Lynn set up a law practice and quickly became involved in many community activities. He played softball until his late 40's, and coached numerous youth baseball teams. He served as Albany County Prosecuting Attorney for many years, and continued his law practice until 1985. At that time, Lynn and Gladdi began "snowbirding" between Laramie and Mesa, a practice they continued until Gladdi's passing in 2005. Lynn enjoyed sports of all kinds, loved music, reading, and would sing you a song at the drop of a hat. He received many awards for his legal and civic accomplishments, and was recognized as a decent and honorable man. Lynn was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, and daughter Shelley Jo. He is survived by his son Greg (Patti) of Mesa and daughter Syd (Tom) of Mesquite, NV, sister Joan of Orlando, FL, granddaughters Alison, Kelly, and Jordyn, great granddaughters Molly and Anna, and several nephews and nieces. He lived for those times with his granddaughters and great granddaughters, and was always delighted to visit with old or new friends. Lynn kept his well-honed sense of humor right to the end, and he will be missed by many. Lynn was cremated per his wishes, and his ashes will be placed with those of Gladdi and Shelley. No services were held. Condolences may be left on Lynn Rees's online guest book at www.sonoranskiesmortuaryaz.com. Rest in Peace, Big Daddy!
