Margaret M. Lafko Obituary
Lafko, Margaret M. (Cavrak)
94, of Scottsdale, AZ since 1995, of Ohio and Pennsylvania in earlier years, passed away on August 9, 2016. Margaret's childhood home was near Pittsburgh in Gillespie, PA. She married John J. Lafko on July 25, 1942 with wedding reception/dinner set in her father James Cavrak's apple orchard in Gillespie, PA. Margaret was one of the pioneer "Working Wives" in the 1950's as she held many career positions in the Cleveland working world. "Piece-Work" payroll accounting in the Ladies Garment Fabrication industry in Cleveland's Garment district was most challenging. Favorite memories: Marge would set a family Holiday table for ten with Leg of Lamb or Standing Rib roasts. Marge's kitchen was always a joyful comfort to all. A crochet hobby resulted in many Afghans being made and sent to family all over the country and many crochet lap robes were made for distribution by St. Maria Goretti Handicrafters to care homes in Scottsdale and Phoenix. Marge's gift of warm Afghans will "live on" across the country. Margaret's husband John passed in 2003. She is survived by one sister from the family of eight brothers and sisters. Margaret's younger sister Frances lives in Trabuco Canyon, CA. Her two children, John Lafko and Lorraine Plut mourn Mom's passing. Daughter Lorraine and her husband Leonard Plut of Mentor, OH gave Margaret three dear Grandchildren, Granddaughter Karen (Plut) Gasparick who is married to Jim Gasparick (Milwaukee, WI), Grandson Matthew Plut and his wife Missey (Holland) Plut gave Margaret two Great Grandchildren…Michael and a sister Holland (Dayton, OH) and Grandson Joseph Plut of Parma Heights, OH. Margaret is also survived by two dear sisters-in-law Ann Chioran of Solon, OH and Margaret Yanok of Twinsburg, OH…and many nieces and nephews with afghans across the USA. A visitation will be held from 9:00AM to 10:00AM Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. A memorial service will follow at 10:30AM at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 6261 N. Granite Reef Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85250. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the church.
