Marie Joyce "Gigi" Elward Obituary
Elward, Marie "Gigi" Joyce
84, of Scottsdale passed away on September 5, 2015 in her home. Gigi was born January 15, 1931 in Mt. Harris, CO. She was predeceased by her first husband, B. David Mooneyham, as well as by her second husband, Melvin E. Elward and her best friend, Sherry Burt. She leaves behind her devoted companion, Burke Tolbert. Gigi grew up in Hayden, CO and moved to Denver after high school to go to cosmetology school. She worked at the Central Bank & Trust and found success as a photographer's model, winning the Miss Colorado and Miss Broadmoor beauty pageants. Over the years, she enjoyed tennis, bowling, golf, skiing, traveling and shopping - a skill at which she excelled. Gigi never left the house without her hair done and her face on. She loved a good (or bad) dirty joke and a good (or bad) trashy novel. She never met a dollar slot she didn't like and watched every Bronco game she possibly could. Why they didn't win every game with her yelling at them, even from Arizona, we don't know. And she hated "that word", which didn't make any of us hesitate to use "that word" for even one minute since we loved to hear her say, "I hate that word'". Gigi's greatest love in life, though, was her family with whom she couldn't have been more devoted, compassionate, and generous. She is survived by her children: Chris (Tom) Rhodes, Brad (Janet) Mooneyham, Doug (Ruth) Elward, Pam Elward (Brian Hager); her grandchildren: Ash (Kendra) Rhodes, Amy Rhodes (Nate) Marshall, Sydney and Parker Mooneyham, Tyler (Megan) Elward, Jamie Elward; and, her great-grandchildren: Malcolm and Georgia Marie Rhodes, Sophie and Chloe Marshall, and Sean and Ryan Elward. Mom/Gigi, we'll love you and miss you always. Private services will be held. Please make donations in Marie's memory to , the Alzheimer's Foundation or .
