Marilyn Whitney Obituary
Whitney, Marilyn
83, of Chandler passed away on 11/22/15. Our dear Marilyn left us on 11/22 after 83 yrs. of wondrous life. She grew up in Rockford, IL during the depression and WWll and at a still tender age, married the love of her life, Gene Whitney. As a couple, the adventure began as they moved throughout several states and began several careers. For a short time in the 60's, Marilyn even worked as a cocktail waitress at some of the swankiest spots in Scottsdale. She was proudest of her three daughters and the offspring they contributed to this world. The third generation is in the making. Professionally, she was most proud of her work with APS and her small contribution to the start-up at the Palo Verde site. In later years, Marilyn and Gene were able to travel, so they hit the road, trailer in-tow to seemingly every state in the nation. They were happiest playing campground hosts at a few sites; their favorite being in Flagstaff. They 'landed in Casa Grande where Gene would pass away in 2002. Not only was she everybodys friend, to the end she had a smile that lit up a room; beauty queen looks - even into her 80's. Her blonde hair, always just so and never without jewelry. Every bit a princess to some, she was all girl; pink being her color and that other Marilyn from the 60's ...merely a magazine model. Marilyn is survived by her daughters Debbi Shannon, Karen Peck (Brent), Kelly Starr (John) and grandchildren Lindsay, Chelsea, Michael, Krystine, Kourtney Joshua, Kalin, Stirling and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 01/16 at 10:00AM at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 2540 W. Baseline Rd., 85202. Interment will be when Marilyn is placed beside the love of her life, Gene, at the National Memorial Cemetery pf Arizona.
