Valentine, Marlene Ann Collins
age 75, of Gilbert Arizona, passed on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, in Gilbert, Arizona following a period of declining health. She was born September 17, 1940 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The only daughter of the late Leo and Gertrude King Collins, Marlene was a graduate of St. Agatha's High School and Villa Maria College, Erie, Pennsylvania. She relocated to Point Pleasant, New Jersey, where she married the late Alexander O. Valentine, Sr. and had four children. In 1975, she moved to Tempe, Arizona, where the family lived for many years. Marlene was a volunteer at Mercy Gilbert Hospital. She worked at Ewing Irrigation and Kaco Shelving. Of all of the accomplishments throughout her life, Marlene considered the raising of her four children the most satisfying. Marlene is survived by her four children: Alex Valentine and his wife Mary of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mary Legler Drake and her husband Jim of Sheridan, Wyoming; Kathleen Walsh and her husband Mike; and Brian Ruffentine and his wife Megan both live in Gilbert, Arizona. She has 13 grandchildren. Marlene is survived by her brother John B. Collins of Jefferson, Ohio, and his children Jackie and Dan Collins. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her stepmother Evelyn Shoffstall, siblings Kathleen and James Collins, and son-in-law, Larry Legler. A memorial Mass will be said at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 2654 E Williams Field Rd, Gilbert, AZ on Friday, August 12, at 10:30, followed by reception at Generations, 2811 East Agritopia Loop South. Internment Graveyard service will be September 17, 2016 at Saint Brigid Cemetery, Meadville, PA.
