Obituary Condolences

Runge, Martin
66, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 14, 2015. Born January 31, 1949 in Davenport, Iowa, Marty was a loved father, grandfather, brother and devoted son. He held a Bachelor's degree in English, a Master's degree in Psychology, and had pursued a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology all at Iowa State University. An entrepreneur at heart, he founded and ran several small businesses over the years, including a software company and a management recruiting firm. But his true passion was spending time at his family rice farm in Pocahontas, AR where he oversaw crop and land management. He knew every inch of the farm, and was constantly making improvements to ensure the farm would be a legacy for future generations. He was an avid writer, composing a collection of short stories and keeping a daily journal for the past 30 years. From memory he could recall the date of nearly any family event and assumed the role of family historian, composing detailed historical accounts of those who had passed including his father Bill Runge, a decorated Army Ranger and WWII hero. Marty loved the outdoors and walked or jogged every morning regardless of weather. He traveled between Arkansas and North Carolina throughout the year to spend time with his son and grandchildren. Marty was very involved with his nieces and nephews and loved them all as if they were his own. He is survived by his only son, Erik (Jude) Runge and two grandchildren, Nathan and Tayler in Clemmons NC; two brothers, Jim (DeeDee) Runge in Salina, KS, and Matt (Jill) Runge who resides in Gila, NM; his mother, Dorothea Dunagan Runge in Pocahontas, AR; and former wife and mother of his son, Anna Mary Tully in Trumansburg, NY. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home (2129 Park St., Pocahontas, AR). A memorial service will convene at 2:00 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hope for the Warriors.
