Barsness, Marvel H.
95, of Scottsdale passed away on Oct. 31, 2015. Marv grew up on a farm in Minn. and felt a call of duty to serve as a Navy Medic in the So. Pacific in WWII . After the war, he became a devoted husband to his wife Jean for 64 years until she went to glory in 2007. Marv became an astute insurance salesman after the war. In 1969 he attended a revival meeting at his son's Baptist church, and became "born again." Two weeks later he joined the Gideons, a Christian Businessman's ministry. He and Jean, handed out Gideon Bibles at induction centers,churches, schools, hospitals, and hotels, for most of the 45 years he was a member. For six years he was the Gideon Field Office representative to countries in the Orient. Marv and Jean moved to Scottsdale in 1979, where Marv served as business administrator to Scottsdale Baptist, but he also served the Gideons for another six years on special missions all over the world. On one trip, he got to re-unite in Guam with a boy in the war whose arm was shot that Marv amputated and sewed up--he left him with a N.T. Marv was an avid and skilled hunter and fisherman, and his family enjoyed going with him to No. Minn. Survivors include his sister Nelly Jane, Mankato MN; two sons: Greg (wife Grace) and Grant (partner Gari) and daughter Gail (husband Greg Crow), all near Phoenix; five grandchildren, Sarah, David, Amy from Phoenix, Joanna of Tulsa, Ok., Rachel of Wash. D.C.,and eight great grandchildren, Aliester, Killian, Kodi, Seth, Samuel, Joseph, Eva, Nathan. Memorial will be held Fri., Nov. 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Hayden Chapel, 7901 E Shea Blvd, west of Hayden Rd., in Scottsdale. His remains will be buried with his beloved wife at Ft. Snelling, Mpls., Minn.
