Picard, Mary Elizabeth
81, of Gold Canyon / Pinetop AZ passed away on January 23, 2016. Mary was raised in Stoughton MA graduating from Stoughton High School in 1952. She taught ballet while in High School and danced professionally in New York and Boston. She went on to obtain a nursing degree from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in 1954, during which time she met the love of her life on Weir's Beach - Dick Picard, who she married and still woke up with 63 years later. They went on to have a wonderful life together full of adventure, travel, and excitement. They raised three remarkable children, living in MA, IN, NY, CA, NJ, and finally settling in Arizona in 1974. She was a skilled seamstress and an amazing Chef that thrived on entertaining friends and family. After retiring, Dick and Mary explored the country visiting friends and relatives every summer in their RV, before deciding on a summer home in Pinetop AZ. Always active in her community and her church, Mary was the center of her social circles. She was active in the local Lions Club, a member of a movie critics group, a Catholic Eucharistic Minister, organized neighborhood holiday parades and parties, played a mean bridge game, and volunteered for many charities over the years. She was the cornerstone of the Picard family and her many circles of friends. She is survived by her Husband of 63 years Richard (Dick) Picard of Gold Canyon/Pinetop AZ, children Janine Smith of Los Angeles CA, Sue Picard (Jane Lindaman) of Springfield OR, and Rick Picard of Surprise AZ. Also her siblings Katherine McKinnon (Donald McKinnon) of Raynham MA., Frank Lyons (Herberta Lyons) of Stoughton MA. She was the sister of the late Paul Lyons, Gerald Lyons, and Joanne Leif. Family, friends, and relatives are invited to celebrate Mary's life at a funeral mass on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., at Saint Mary of the Angels Catholic Church located at 1915 South Penrod Lane, Pinetop, AZ 85935 where she will be forever interned. A reception will immediately follow at the church. In keeping with Mary's wishes, in lieu of flowers the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to one of her favorite charities, the Community Alliance Against Family Abuse (CAAFA), 185 North Apache Trail, Apache Junction, AZ 85120 or http://www.caafaaz.org/donate/
