Mary Hayward-Butt Obituary
Hayward-Butt, Mary
Mary C. "Diana" Hayward-Butt passed peacefully on November 5, 2015 with her family by her side. Diana was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on February 17, 1931. She grew up in Durban, South Africa and married Dr. John T. "Peter" Hayward-Butt in 1955. Soon afterward, they immigrated to the United States, arriving in Phoenix in 1959. Diana and Peter quickly made friends and were known for having fun parties. Diana was active in the community including the Medical Society and the Phoenix Art Museum. When Peter passed in 1973, Diana began working in the offices of several friends. She launched a new career in the 1980's as a nanny. She shared her love with several families, nurturing numerous children over the years. Diana was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church for 55 years, serving on the Garden Committee, Altar Guild and the Vestry. Diana was instrumental in the formation of the Legacy Circle to encourage bequests to perpetuate the ministries of All Saints'. Diana was preceded in death by her husband Peter, son Anthony, and stepson Christopher. She is survived by her daughter Shelley Dudley, grandson Dusty Dudley, and her step-granddaughter Wendy Kuhns (Wil) and their children Keeley and Kris, and the many friends she considered family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28th at 10:00am at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 6300 N Central Ave, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, Diana requested donations be made to the All Saints' Episcopal Church Legacy Circle.
