Mary Louise Bajema Obituary
Bajema, Mary Louise
Mary Louise Bajema, fondly known as "Mary Lou and Grandma Lou Lou," 76, passed away August 29, 2015, in Scottsdale, AZ with family by her side. Mary was born in Ellsworth, MN, on November 29, 1938, into a large and loving family. Her parents were Lambert and Mildred Bofenkamp, and Mary was the 4th of their seven children. After graduating high school Mary attended the College of St. Teresa and Mankato State (Minnesota State University). Mary married, had two children and moved with her family to Scottsdale, AZ in 1972, to open a business, Topco Business Center, which served the area for more than 25 years. She most recently spent several years working part-time at the Great Indoors where she looked forward to spending time with friends and helping people decorate their homes. Mary was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed baking, home decorating, chatting with her brothers and sisters on the phone and celebrating the holidays. She was an avid reader, an NBA fan, and was always asked to make her much loved Minnesota Goulash for family. As a young girl she spent her summers outdoors bike riding, horseback riding, and having wrestling and running competitions with her younger brother Tommy, for Catholic medals they wore on necklaces. Even though Mary didn't care for the cold she loved to ice skate in the winter. We wish for her to have stronger ankles in heaven so she can be the ice skater she always wanted to be! While a young woman, Mary enjoyed dancing with her friends to live big band music at the Red Roof Ballroom and listening to Elvis or Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill" from the soda shop jukebox. She had so much fun boating with family and thought it was a perfect way to spend a day. Mary was kind, had a great sense of humor, and always had time to listen to and help family and friends. She had a wonderful ability to help others find the "silver lining" whatever their difficult circumstance may have been. She is already sorely missed by her loved ones. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Timothy Bajema; sister-in-law, Rose Bofenkamp; brother-in-law, Tom McKeon, and former spouse, Bernard Bajema. Survivors include her daughter, Debra Atkinson and son, Michael Bajema; grandsons, Matthew & Ryan Atkinson; her brothers, Richard, Robert (Alice) & Thomas (Carol) Bofenkamp; Sisters, Nancy McKeon, Patricia Roelandt, & Elizabeth (Gary) Qualley; as well
as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces & nephews. A memorial service will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colon Cancer Alliance at www.ccalliance.org
