Mary Lucile Southworth Obituary
Southworth, Mary Lucile
91, of Scottsdale welcomed the arms of the Lord, on June 21, 2016 at her home on Spur Circle and surrounded by her loving family. Congestive heart failure made the simple act of breathing impossible in the end. Mary was born in Dayton, Ohio and was the younger sister of William F. Mullin Jr. (Greenville, SC), now 95 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents William F & Lucile Frances Mullin and by her granddaughter, Kylie Southworth. Mary came to Phoenix from the Midwest in 1948, to begin her long career as a pharmacist after graduating from Purdue University. Phoenix is where she met and married Robert Hall Southworth of Florence, AZ in September of 1950. They were married 66 years and included 4 children: David of Boston, Barbara (Martinez), Bill (and wife Beth) and Dan (and wife Kathy) all of Scottsdale. She had 13 BEAUTIFUL grandchildren (Heather, Ryan, Clayton, Tommy, Mikey, Greg, Andy, Jonathan, Laura, Devin, Kylie, Kahili, Leilani) and 2 DELIGHTFUL great grandchildren (Jackson, Jovi). Mary's list of friends and colleagues grew through her involvement at St. Luke's medical center, Scottsdale Historical Museum (Little Red Schoolhouse), The Old Adobe Mission, American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, and the Little Sisters of the Poor. Mary had a unique perspective of life which came through abundantly in her humor. She loved to perform magic tricks and was a master of memory games. During a summer vacation at the age of 80 she took on and defeated her son David and her grandsons in a push up contest. She did 54 'boy' style! There was always a joke or a cartoon available to solve any of life's problems. And from a very challenging childhood she developed an unwavering "don't let it get you down" attitude. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed... A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3801 N. Miller Road, Scottsdale. Contributions may be made to , 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 and to the Old Adobe Mission, 7655 E Main Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Messenger Mortuary.
