Mary Vick Obituary
Vick, Mary
89, of Chandler, AZ passed away on July 22, 2016. Mary was born in Wahpeton, North Dakota to Peter and Kathryn Peschel. Mary attended St. John's Catholic School, Wahpeton High School, and the North Dakota State School of Science. Upon graduation, she began her career in medical records. Mary worked at Grant Hospital in Chicago, Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco and retired from Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. She married John Vick in January 1961 in San Francisco. In 1970, Mary and John relocated to Phoenix from Concord, CA. They were among the first parishioners at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Phoenix. Mary enjoyed crossword puzzles, martinis, golf, sewing, and freshly ironed sheets. She especially loved her six grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Mimi." Mary would cook their favorite foods when they came to visit and always made sure to offer dessert. She was a world class worrywart and always imagined the worst case scenario, often to the amusement of her family. Mary was predeceased by her siblings; Ray Peschel of Fargo, ND and Virginia "Ginny" Larson of Spokane, WA. She is survived by her husband, John, her three daughters: Anne Kiley (Dan), Trish Harris, and Laura Zilmer (Tim), six grandchildren: Bridget and Jay Kiley, Andrew and Brandon Harris and Samantha and Carson Zilmer; three nephews and one niece. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th St, Phoenix, AZ, with reception following. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Americare Hospice Foundation, 1212 N Spencer Street, Suite 2, Mesa, AZ 85203, for whom the family is very grateful.
