Michael Andrew Philips Obituary
Philips, Michael Andrew
74, passed away January 19, 2016. Our hero was born in Houghton, Michigan to Ray and Julie Philips. Mike attended St. Mary's High School where he met his sweetheart and lifelong soulmate, Lyla Mae Fuller. They had one son and two daughters together. Mike joined the Phoenix Fire Department in 1963 as a rookie and was eventually promoted to Captain. He was a true hero, to not only his family, but to many others. He received the Benjamin Franklin Fire Service Valor Award in 1975 and was also inducted into the Hall of Flame. It was a big deal to us, but for Mike, "it's not such a big deal". He worked for the Fire Department for 22 years until he retired. During his retirement, Mike built his dream home in Camp Verde. He was a true craftsman and literally built his home from the ground up with perfection. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, his son; Mark and sister; Karen Costello. He is survived by his wife; Lyla, children; Vikki Stevens (Scott), Linzi Philips (Joyce LaPointe), grandchildren; Barney (Danielle), Tyler, and Marcus, great granddaughter; Amanda and, sister; Donna Jones. Services will be held on January 30, 2016 at 1:00 at Greenwood Cemetery at The Bell Tower. Private family gathering will be held at a later time.
