left this world peacefully February 2, 2013. Mike was a beloved father, Daddy Grandpa and Papa, brother, and friend. The strong, silent type, Mike was known for his winning smile and hearty laugh. He survived by his children - Kelly, Kenny, and Missy; sons-in-law Jason and Brian; grandchildren - Sara, DJ, and Maddie; brothers - Eric and Bill; and many friends, cousins, and relatives near and far. Born in 1942 in South Dakota, Mike spent his youth on his grandparents' ranches, hunting prairie dogs, and learning enough to know that the ranching life was not for him. Extremely smart, he excelled at school and sports. After graduating high school in 1960, Mike spent time at the South Dakota School of Mines, sailing in the Atlantic in the U.S. Navy, and bouncing around the Midwest. He came to Phoenix in 1973 and met his "other brothers" Greg and Tony Elias. For the next 40 years, they poured drinks and entertained Scottsdale at a variety of establishments including Joe Hunt's, the Hilton, Vinnie's, and Eli's American Grille. It brings us great comfort to know Mike was greeted in heaven with tears of joy and open arms by his parents Robert and Florence and many friends and relatives who passed before. His family asks that you raise your glass and toast a man who will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 at Messinger's Pinnacle Peak Mortuary at 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd. A celebration of Mike's life will follow at Eli's American Grille at 12:30 at 7000 E. Shea Blvd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to
