Michael Edward "Mike" Thayer Obituary
Thayer, Michael Edward "Mike"
72, passed away on September 19, 2016 from complications due to Alzheimer's disease. Mike was a carpenter and highly skilled woodworker. Friends and family alike benefited from his home improvement skills. In addition, the special furniture he created will be a lasting legacy of his talents. He enjoyed all sports; but his passion was football, especially the ASU Sun Devils. Mike was the founder and chef of the infamous annual family lasagna dinner party, which he looked forward to every year. He loved his weekends in Munds Park and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the first graduating class of Kofa high school in Yuma AZ. Mike served proudly in the United States Navy as a Seabee during the Vietnam conflict. He is survived by his girls; his wife of 47 years, Candy; daughters Carol (Mike) MacLean, Janice (Paul) Hansen, and Chris (Carl) Moore; and his granddaughters, Sarah (Russell) Brooks, Amy Hansen, Alyssa Hansen and Carissa Moore. He is also survived by his nephew Eric (Alyssa) Thayer and niece Debbie (Brent) Cook. A special thank you to all of the caregivers and his hospice team who assisted him during the last years of his life. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. A celebration of his life will be held at the home of his daughter, Carol, on September 24 between 2:00pm - 7:00pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Desert Southwest Chapter at 1028 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix AZ, 85006 or online at alz.org.
