Nestor, Michael
Monsignor Michael Nestor of Gilbert, AZ, passed away on April 12, 2016. He was born on December 15, 1928 in McKeesport, PA to Michael and Julia Nestor. Michael served his country in the Airforce as a sergeant from 1948 to 1952. He attended Saint Vincent College and St. Josaphat Seminary in Washington, DC and was ordained in 1965 at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia PA by Archbishop Ambrose Synyszyn. Fr. Michael was elevated to Monsignor in 1993 at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Parma OH by Bishop Robert Moskal. Monsignor Nestor served parishes in Jersey City NJ, Nanticoke PA, Wheeling WV, McKeesport PA and semi-retired in December, 1994, from St Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ambridge PA. He relocated to Arizona where he continued serving many Arizona parishes including St Bridget's in Mesa AZ, Holy Cross in Mesa AZ, and St Anne's in Mesa AZ. He is preceded in death by his siblings Mildred, Mary, Catherine, Joseph, Andrew, and John. Monsignor Nestor is survived by his sister in law, Helen Nestor Scenery Hill PA; nieces and nephews: Kathleen Krecek Tempe AZ, Julie Fox Gilbert AZ, Karl Schmitt Texarkana TX, Michael Piekut Washington Court House OH, Loretta Dibler McKeesport PA, Patricia West McKeesport PA and John (Jack) Nestor McKeesport PA along with many great, great-great, great-great-great nieces and nephews. Monsignor Nestor is also survived by his beloved pet, Shadow. A viewing for Monsignor Nestor will be Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 12pm - 8pm with Priestly Parastas at 7pm at St. Peter and Paul in Ambridge, PA. A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Bishop Bohdan Danylo and the clergy of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 10am with burial at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in McKeesport, PA.
