went home to God November 15, 2012 from Scottsdale, AZ. Mike was born in Hackensack, NJ March 15, 1949. He held Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering and Business Management and was a Board Certified Family Practice Osteopathic Physician educated in Kirksville, Mo.
Mike found joy in caring for and learning from others. He was blessed with a sense of humor and a kind heart. Mike contributed to medicine through his involvement in the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association and teaching. Students and fellow physicians appreciated the depth is his knowledge. Children in the family sometimes warned one another not to ask science or medical questions! Mike was honored by his patients' appreciation, hand -made gifts and invitations to join family events. A warm and caring father, Mike involved Stephanie in planning and cooking weekend meals, helped capture her pet that had escaped an exercise ball and hidden under a cabinet, and ventured into the land of teen music with Stephanie, taking her to hear local bands.
Mike is survived by his wife, Peggy Altamura, his step-daughter, Stephanie McGerty, his parents, Michael and Emily Altamura, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Anne Altamura, his nephew, Matthew Altamura, and his niece, Stephanie Altamura. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23, at the Atonement Lutheran Church, 4001 W Beardsley Rd, Glendale, AZ 85308. Mike suffered a rare disease and donated his body for research, so there will be no viewing. A Celebration of Mike's Life will be held at the Desert Botanical Garden in March, 2013. The family would like to thank The Barton House and Hospice of the Valley for their care and support. Contributions in Mike's memory may be made to the Michael J Fox Organization https://www.michaeljfox.org/get-involved/donation.php?fr_id=1600&type=tribute
