Nolan Erich Schmoldt

1933 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
Schmoldt, Nolan Erich
No one plans on losing someone so dear and so close to our hearts; that is why we say "unexpectedly". There was no warning that on September 1, 2015 we would unexpectedly lose Nolan Erich Schmoldt. Suddenly, the man known as Fritz by family and friends and as Papa by his six Grandsons left this world. As heartbroken as we are; we can rejoice in his legacy and celebrate the 81 years that Fritz TRULY lived his life. He was loved by many and a friend to all. Born in Wisconsin on Nov 17th, 1933, Fritz came from a large family - four brothers and two sisters. Fritz fought gallantly and proudly for the US Army and for this great country of ours in the Korean war. After his honorable service he married the absolute love of his life, his best friend and soul mate Kathleen Kolz on a beautiful spring day in April 1954. Fritz was never fond of cold weather and after 27 years of Wisconsin winters he decided to move his family to Arizona in 1960; or as he would say, "To get away from that dirty puppin' cold weather." The Arizona heat has perfect for him - the hotter the better! Fritz raised his children to each have a wonderful sense of humor, which has always filled family gatherings with lots of laughter. His joy was seeing each of his children live their life on their own terms and to not worry about what other people think, just as he did in his life. Papa was the biggest and best "fan" to his children and six grandsons; he never missed a ball game, birthday, wedding, anniversary, an opportunity to babysit or any other meaningful event - no matter how big or how small, how close or how far, he was there. Papa was the best friend to each of his six grandsons and he was their bigger than life hero. Fritz was a one in a million personality and will be missed greatly by all that loved him and especially by his loving wife of 61 years. He is preceded in death by his parents: Eric and Lillian (Radtke) Schmoldt, in-laws: Bert and Helen Kolz; his daughter: Debbie; brothers: Daniel, Ronald, & Arden Schmoldt; brothers-in-law: Norbert Kolz & Robert Hodgden. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, three sons and one daughter: Dan, Glendale AZ, Doug & (Kathi), Henderson, NV, Dave & (Deb), Queen Creek, AZ, Denise & (Pete) Richmond, Andover, MN. Grandsons: Erich Schmoldt, Tucson, AZ, Patrick Schmoldt, Glendale, AZ, Konner & Jake Schmoldt, Queen Creek, AZ, Mathew & Michael Richmond, Andover, MN. Brother: Roger & (Marion) Schmoldt, Merrill, WI. Sisters: Valeria Hodgden, Glendale, AZ & Dorothy (Vern Otto), Surprise, AZ. Sister-in-law: Betty Schmoldt, Weyauwega, WI, and his little canine buddy - MAX. All are invited to help his family and friends celebrate this wonderful man and his amazing life. Church services will be held at: Apostles Lutheran Church on Friday Sept 11, 2015 at 1000, 7020 W Cactus Rd, Peoria, AZ 85381 (623) 979-3497.
