Opal Jane Thomas Obituary
Thomas, Opal Jane
97 years young, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2916 in Phoenix. Born in Marissa, Illinois and raised in St. Louis. Missouri, she moved to the Phoenix area 20 years ago. "Opie" was an amazing independent woman who never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest spreading joy and love wherever she went. Working for TWA for nearly 40 years, she was able to travel around the world and had friends in all the exotic places she visited. Ahead of her time in breaking the glass ceiling, Opal created the first TWA Gateway Senior Club in St. Louis and was president for its first three years. She was president of Zonta International and an officer and entertainer for the St. Louis Ad Club. A single mom at the age of 18, she was chief cheerleader and champion for her daughter, granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country. Opal Jane is survived by her daughter Sherry Henry, granddaughter Diane Dent, nieces Cathy Griffith (Rick), Kaaran Thomas (Andy Neilsen), Patty Stamlos (Mark), and Bonnie Vona; nephew Paul Thomas (Linda). The baby of the family, she joins her brother Raedel and sisters Nellie and Hattie in heaven. She had a very big heart for people and animals and in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Arizona Humane Society in her name.
