Burns, Orbrey
Born April 13, 1925; died peacefully at his home in Sun Lakes AZ on January 15, 2013. Orb was born in Viola AR to Ruby and D.R. Burns, and moved to Augusta KS with his siblings Pete and Bob. In 1944, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. His flyboy experience colored everything in his life, and he was very proud and grateful to pilot the warbirds of his era. After WWII, he married Barbara Thompson, moving to Marietta GA to begin a long career with Lockheed. Orb and Barb had a daughter Shan in Augusta, a son Kent in Marietta before settling down in Northridge CA with two more sons, Kurt and Kyle. Orb returned to college, getting his BS in Business in 1971 from USC. He later married Rhoda Weisman in 1986 and after retirement from Lockheed as Director of Marketing in 1988 they embarked on many motorhome excursions throughout the US. They eventually settled down in Sun Lakes. They remained inseparable until Rhoda's death in 1996. Throughout his life, Orb stayed close to his brothers, and shared a love of hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. Many weekends were also spent watching his beloved Rams and Trojans. No football game on TV was without his colorful descriptives of referees. Orb will be remembered for his quick wit and adventurous soul. He will be missed, but his indelible mark has been passed down to his children and grand-children. There will be a graveside service at Mesa Cemetery, AZ at 11 am on March 29th, and a memorial service at Concordia Lutheran Church in Cerritos, CA at 3 pm on March 30th. Those wishing to say goodbye are welcome to attend.
