Patrick J. Gavin Obituary
Gavin, Patrick J.
Patrick (Pat) Gavin was born April 8, 1928 and raised in Chicago and passed away October 17, 2016 after a brief illness while visiting his son and daughter-in-law in Atlanta. Pat graduated from De La Salle High School and soon thereafter met and married Josephine Brehm on February 4, 1950. Together they raised eight children in their Catholic faith and were a devoted couple and parents for over sixty-four years. Pat had a long and rewarding career with New York Life. Starting out as an agent, he rose to the level of Managing Partner. In 1968, Pat was transferred to California to open the Vallejo office. Later he directed the Berkeley operation until 1978, when he was offered the Scottsdale, Arizona office. After retiring in 1984, he maintained an agent contract and recently was acknowledged for sixty years of service. Retirement years were filled with travel for Pat and Jo. Trips to Europe and to visit their children in several states were regular occurrences. The couple returned to Chicago several times to enjoy family reunions as well. Pat was an avid golfer, puzzle solver, and an ardent fan of the Arizona Cardinals and Suns. Pat had a warm Irish smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and a deep faith in God. Pat was preceded in death by his loving wife Josephine; his parents Thomas and Helen Gavin; siblings Margaret, Thomas, John, Kathleen, James, and Ann; daughter- in- law Connie Gavin, and grandson Nicholas Gavin. He is survived by his children, Patrick (Patricia), Thomas (Patrice), Kathleen (Michael) Laharty, Jean (Dennis) Petri, Joanne (Doug) Jones, John (Sabrina), Joseph, and Michael (Stacy); siblings Patsy Brennan (Martin), Mary Daly, Robert (Karen) and Michael (Patricia) Gavin; 20 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, November 14, at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church in Scottsdale, 11300 N. 64th Street, Scottsdale 85254, his home parish. Inurnment follows at Hansen Desert Hills Cemetery, 6500E. Bell Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. A reception follows immediately at Blessed Sacrament Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the building fund at Blessed Sacrament Church. Please visit www.hansenmortuary.com for online condolences.
