Obituary Condolences

Kelley, Paul J.
74, of Tempe passed away on November 21, 2015. Paul was born in Norwood, Massachusetts to the late Mary Jane Irene Ferland and James Leo Kelley. A graduate of Boston College High School (1959) and Boston College (1963), Paul relocated to Tempe in 1967. Paul was the Director of Public Relations for U-Haul International. A lobbyist at heart, Paul was chosen by his peers in the trucking industry to represent the entire do-it-yourself household moving industry in Washington DC and work to pass legislation that recognized the need for purposeful family mobility. This paved the way for families to be able to undertake a household move unencumbered by interstate department of transportation regulations. His efforts led to invitations from the White House by five Presidents. Paul received the Percy Award, granted by the Public Relations Society of America, a high honor in the public relations field. Paul also served as President of Muse International, the parent company of Legend City, a Disney-like amusement park formerly located in Tempe. Paul also served the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in many roles compassionately caring for the poor and needy in the community. As the Volunteer Coordinator for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, he revitalized their training curriculum and developed volunteers in seven western regions. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul continues to use this curriculum and Paul's teaching methodology nationwide. Paul and Mary together served SVdP for over 15 years. Paul is survived by his wife of 38 years Mary Helen Kelley (McCoy), his children; Martha Ouellette (Robert), Barry, Shawn (Jodi), Trevor and Michael (Rosa) and his grandchildren Abigail, Benjamin, and Connor Ouellette; Sloan and Joseph Kelley; his brother David Kelley, John Kelley and Jeanne (Kelley). Paul is predeceased by his sisters Nadine Jane Wright Permann, Anne Marie DeNisi (Kelley) and his brother Thomas Christopher Kelley. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 2121 South Rural Road Tempe, AZ 85282 December 10th at 11am. Mass will be followed by internment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery 1562 E Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85204. The internment ceremony will be followed by a reception at Resurrection Catholic Church 3201 S Evergreen Rd, Tempe, AZ 85282. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at OLMC, 2121 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ 85282
