A friend and mentor. I still think of him often.

Ray was the commander of the US Air Force Academy Arizona Liasion Officers and was my first boss in the Air Force Reserve. We served toghether for many years and also worked on many political issues together as we shared a philosophy of limited government. Just prior to learning of his death I had written an editorial suggesting a NO vote on the Phoenix Proposition One and giving as my reason that we should abide by the spending limits passed in 1979 (primarily due to Ray's efforts). Ray will be greatly missed.

We will all miss Ray but we will all benefit from his leadership and friendship for years to come. I learned a lot from Ray as he mentored me on the Junior Achievement Board and on the American Humanics/ASU board. Ray, you were a true community leader. It was an honor to know and work along side you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ray's family. Ray was a mentor and friend who helped our community immeasurably. His years of leadership of our American Humanics/ASU board, among many other civic contributions, was unparalleled. We will miss Ray and his wonderful intellect, humor and commitment to “service above self.” God Bless you and your family.
