Sorenson, Raymond Peter
passed at home on June 16, 2016. He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, April 12, 1932 and moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1949. Raymond attended Glendale Union High School and played baseball for the University of Arizona, on a baseball scholarship. He served in the Korean War as a Navy Seebee and during that time, played baseball for the USMC. Upon his return to Phoenix, he was employed in the auto metal industry. In 1960, Raymond married the love of his life, Judy Beach. In Phoenix, they built a home and owned and operated American Plating, Inc. for 32 years. Ray Sorenson was a craftsman with many skills. He was a talented carpenter, artist and especially gifted in metal restoration. He enjoyed camping, in the White Mountains, and many trips to Hawaii. Raymond will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Judy Sorenson, daughters, Diana Maloney (Bob), Susan Sorenson, grandchildren: Adam Maloney, Brandon Maloney, Alex Drake and Jessica Drake. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Gloria Bristow of Bakersfield, California. Viewing will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday June 20, 2016 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix 85020. Funeral will be held at 9:00 AM Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Hansen Chapel followed by burial at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern, Glendale 85301. Visit hansenmortuary.com for condolences.
