89, of Gilbert passed away on February 10, 2016. 89, of Gilbert, Arizona passed away on February 10, 2016. Reed, a revered native of Chandler, was born Nov. 3, 1926 to Edgar and Frances Cleva Ethington. He was raised on a farm on S. Arizona Ave, with three brothers and two sisters. He learned all the skills of farming, even to driving a team of horses. Reed attended Chandler Schools and graduated from Chandler High in 1944. He first attended UA and then ASU where he earned Bachelor, Master and Ed.S. degrees. He was a teacher and principal in the Chandler School District. He loved children and being involved in their education. Reed married Kathryn Sorensen June 1, 1950 in the Mesa LDS Temple. He found joy in being a husband and father and was devoted to his family. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in many leadership positions including Bishop, Branch President, and teacher. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 81 for about 17 years. Reed served as a missionary in his youth and later three missions with his wife. Reed is preceded in death by son Reed and daughter Rebecca. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathryn, a brother Errol, daughter, Beth Anne (Cornelus van Langen), and five sons: Roger (Judy), Neil (Jodi), Timothy (Leslie), David (Jaimi), and Daniel (Jody). He has 37 grandchildren (1 deceased) and 33 great grandchildren. Viewing 6-8 PM Sun. Feb.14 at Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Dr., Chandler. Funeral at 11:00 Feb. 15, 1100 N Cooper Rd., Gilbert. In Lieu of flowers donations to LDS Humanitarian Fund or Operation Smile.
