Edens, Richard Aaron
Richard Aaron Edens of Mesa, AZ, passed away in Mesa, AZ, on July 21, 2014. He was 45 years old. Aaron, as he was known, was born on November 13, 1968 in Oklahoma City, OK to William James and Judith Edens. Aaron was born in Oklahoma, but throughout his childhood and into adulthood lived in many different locations. Arizona, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Iran, England, Texas, Colorado, Idaho and Brooklyn, New York were all places he would call home. Before he had graduated from high school, he developed two loves: politics and law. After completing a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Salt Lake City South Mission in Utah. Aaron pursued a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. During this time he worked on a congressional campaign, spent a year as a legislative assistant in Washington, D.C. and then returned to Utah to finish his degree. He worked as a paralegal for several years, before receiving a law degree at Widener University in Harrisburg, PA. Aaron loved being an attorney and was especially grateful for the opportunity to work at Burch & Cracchiolo in Phoenix, AZ. A place he felt at home and with colleagues whose friendship he valued. But, nowhere was his heart more focused than with his family and faith. He was a devoted husband and father, whose greatness sadness he ever experienced was to know that his time was cut short with them on earth. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. His last year was spent pouring over scripture. During times of pain and discomfort, listening to scriptures and the words of the apostles would bring him peace. His life touched many hearts and he will dearly be missed. Aaron is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol Lee Edens of Mesa; one son, Alec Kendrick Edens of Mesa, three daughters Ashlee Victoria (Weston) Merkley of Mesa, Lindsey Alene Edens of Mesa, and Madison Kay Edens of Mesa; his father, William James of Maricopa, AZ, and is predeceased by his mother this year, Judith.
