Good, Richard Allen
passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2015 at the age of 91 years 3 months. He was born in Oregon City, OR on June 4, 1924. In 1944 he joined the Army Air Corps and became a pilot in January of 1945 at Luke Air Force Base. He was discharged in 1945 when WW II ended. He attended Multnomah College where he earned an Associates' Degree in business. He met and married Marietta VanLaningham in 1947. He was recalled into the USAF in 1951 during the Korean War. In 1951, he was stationed at Tyndall AFB and attended the Air Traffic Control School. He was then transferred to Misawa, Japan where he acted as Senior Controller in the Air Defense Direction Center. He returned to Tyndall in 1956 where he held various jobs until 1961 when he was assigned to the MAAG in Taiwan where he was an Advisor to Chinese Air Force personnel on base operations and control activities. In 1964-67 he was stationed at Craig AFB and 1967-69 stationed at Laughlin AFB where he was Commander of Student Squadron at both. In 1969 he came to Luke AFB for F-100 training and then was assigned to Vietnam in January 1970. He served 35 years, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. in 1978. He and Marietta settled in Glendale, AZ, eventually moving to Sun City. He and Marietta loved their RV, traveling the country back and forth visiting friends they met during his military career as well as family. He loved the game of golf and had a hole in one at Eagle Landing Golf Course in Portland, OR and then at the young age of 88 another hole in one at the Sun City Lakes East Golf Course in Sun City, AZ. He is survived by his wife Marietta, son Richard Jr. (Connie), daughters Jean Ann, Marcelline (Denny) and Nancy (Dennis), 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Memorial services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 at Menke Funeral Home Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, followed by interment with military honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charity of donor's choice. Please visit www.menkefuneralhome.com to leave condolences.
