Richard Dale "Coach Pilch" Pilch Obituary
Pilch, Richard Dale (aka Coach Pilch)
81, Born in Thermopolis Wyoming in 1934, and passed away at home on April 24, 2016. Richard played football at the University of Wyoming and played in the 1956 Sun Bowl in Texas. He became a teacher and coach on the Crow Reservation in Lodge Grass Montana, where to this day is still revered by the students, staff, and community who knew him. He came to Arizona in 1964, and taught at a few local high schools (Scottsdale HS, Maryvale HS, and Carl Hayden HS). Coach Pilch spent the next 30 years at Glendale Community College as a teacher and assistant football coach and head wrestling coach. He gained the respect and admiration of all who played for him over the years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing, and camping. He will be remembered for his dedicated work ethics, attention to detail, and long arms that made his handball buddies cringe when they played with him every Saturday at Alhambra HS for 25+ years. Richard will be joining his beloved wife, Karen Pilch, who passed away 3 years ago. Richard leaves behind three children, Mike (Jeanette) Pilch, Scott Pilch, Stacy (Mike) Hoffner. Five grandchildren, Justin Pilch, Christine Pilch, Caitlin Pilch, Steven (Brean) Hoffner, Jeff Hoffner, Eric Hoffner. Three great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. We will be holding a private family gathering.
