Helburn, Richard (Dick)
left this earth to join his beloved wife Alice on August 24, 2015. He was born to Lillian and Fred Helburn on September 9, 1922 at Port Chester, New York. In addition to his parents and wife of sixty years Alice, He was preceded in death by a sister Lillian Raynor, and brothers Fred Helburn, Otto Helburn, and Robert Helburn. Dick served his country during World War II as a member of the Army 77th Infantry Division, NY. He received two purple hearts and two bronze stars while participating in seven amphibious landings in the South Pacific. He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, , and the American Legion. Surviving family include nephews Fred Helburn (Maxine), Steve Helburn (Marilyn), Jack Sweeney (Monica), Kevin Sweeney, Dennis Sweeney (Nancy), Bob Meeks (Debbie), Bill Meeks (Ann Marie), and niece Lynn Conner (Jim). Dick and Alice resided in Hasting-on-Hudson, NY for several years during which time he was involved in Industrial Parts Management and she was an employee of the Grand Central Railroad. Upon retirement in 1984, they spent twenty-one years in Coconut Creek, FL and the last nine years in Surprise, AZ. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sun City West on Tuesday, September 15 at 10:00am. Interment shall be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings -on-Hudson. Remembrances may be made to any Veterans Organization or the Boys/Girls Club of Surprise.
