Heckel, Richard Henry
Richard passed away June 10, 2016 at St Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born January 2, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Anna Mae and Henry Aloysius Heckel. Richard served in the 13th and 82nd Airborne Divisions during WWII and attended Loyola University in Chicago, majoring in mathematics and becoming the president of his fraternity. While in college, Richard began a career with Sinclair Oil Company, later to become ARCO, fueling yachts on Lake Michigan. He advanced over the years and moved his family to Phoenix in 1972 when he was promoted to Terminal Superintendent. Richard retired from ARCO in 1985 after 35 years of service. He devoted his life to his family and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Richard was a model for a strong work ethic and devotion to parents, family, and faith. He appreciated fine dining, enjoyed travel, loved football, belonged to a competitive pistol team, and always liked a good cigar. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anna Rita his beloved wife of 57 years, his daughters Andrea and Debra, and son-in-law Michael Cruess. He is survived by his two sons Gregory and Jeffrey, his daughters- in- law Stephanie and Kristen, and eight grandchildren: Danielle, Brian, Connor, Claire, Christian, Matthew, Monica and Jeremy. A viewing will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, with Rosary at 7:00 pm, Wednesday June 15, 2016, at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix 85020. A funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday June 16, 2016 at SS. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix 85017. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix 85008. Richard, most loving husband, father and grandfather, you were a pillar of strength for all who knew you and you will be truly missed.
