Bardon, Richard Jr.
84, passed away in Scottsdale, AZ on May 21, 2013. Dick's abiding integrity, expressed each day in the joy of a loving relationship, sustained a wonderful marriage of over 61 years. His self-deprecating humor and overt delight in the humor of others placed him at the center of any gathering of his children and grandchildren. His unwavering commitment to faith, coupled with a deep respect for the faith traditions of others, made him a loyal friend, a trusted business associate and a valued mentor. He taught CCD classes and served as a lay reader at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in St Paul, MN and as a lay reader and sacristan at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Scottsdale.
Dick was born on September 23, 1928, in Duluth, MN to Dr. Richard Bardon and Cornelia McCabe Bardon. An early affinity for the outdoors and for scouting culminated in his selection as an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Duluth Central High School and The University of Minnesota-Duluth. On May 3, 1952, a day he prized above all others, Dick married Mary Louise Dolan in her home town of Williston, ND. Soon after the wedding, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Army. His military duties took the two of them to Fort Bliss, TX and Travis AFB, CA. He completed an overseas tour in Thule, Greenland.
A business career began in Duluth, continued in Coffeyville, KS and featured a long stop in St. Paul. In 1981, he and Mary Louise moved to Arizona. Dick retired from Walsh Brothers Office Furniture as Vice President of Operations in 1993 but continued as a consultant to Walsh Brothers for nearly 9 years past his retirement. In his inimitable style, he jokingly referred to his consulting duties as "post-graduate work".
Dick was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and his brothers Thomas Bardon and John A. Bardon. He is survived by his wife Mary Louise Bardon and their three children: Richard Bardon, III (Leslie) of San Antonio, TX; Peter Bardon (Denise) of Phoenix, AZ; and Julia Bardon Sunde (Martin) of Austin, TX. Five grandchildren, Richard Bardon, IV, Jane Sunde, Molly Bardon, David Sunde and Alexander Bardon also mourn his passing.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, May 24th at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 6261 N. Granite Reef Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85250. Memorials may be directed to the church or East Valley Hospice, 1311 W. Chandler Blvd, Ste 200, Chandler, AZ 85224. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary, Scottsdale.
