Richard Yates went home in celebration to be with his Savior on Friday, May 27, 2015 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Richard was born in Stamford, Texas on May 6, 1927 to Eugene and Delta Yates. During WWII, he served in the US Navy, stationed on North Island, Coronado, CA. After the war, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas in Austin. He met his wife, Virginia, on a blind date at a square dance club in North Texas. They were engaged in July 1950 before he returned to the US Navy to serve on the USS Kermit Roosevelt during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged he and Virginia were married on August 18, 1951, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Richard went to work with Oilwell Supply. After they were married, they moved to Odessa, Texas where their only child, Becky, was born. They later moved to Monahans, Texas and in 1967 he transferred to the Dallas headquarters. After 38 years with Oilwell, he retired in 1987. In 1989, Richard and Virginia moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to be with Becky and her family. They were faithful members of First Southern Baptist Church of Scottsdale where he served as a Deacon, was a member of the Jubilee Choir and served on many committees. Virginia, his beloved wife of 63 years, preceded Richard in death in 2014. He is survived by his daughter, Becky (Dan) Porth, grandchildren: Jennifer (Scott) Musselwhite, Brian Porth, and Michael (Megan) Porth; great grandchildren, Rylee, Presley, Brandon, and Claire. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at First Southern Baptist Church of Scottsdale 5230 Scottsdale Rd. Paradise Valley.
