Rita M. Sampiere Obituary
Sampiere, Rita M.
68, of Phoenix passed from this world and onto the next on January 23, 2016. Rita was born on October 28, 1947 in Newark, New Jersey and was the daughter of the late Frank Sampiere and Florence (Messina) Sampiere. Throughout her life Rita owned and operated several successful business ventures in the travel, service and construction industries. She insisted on living life to the fullest traveling the globe with her beloved late husband, Kenneth F. Smith, and never missing long trips back home to New York City to see the latest Broadway shows and then stopping at each bakery to sample desserts on the walk home. A caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother who praised with one hand and held a spatula in the other if you got out of line. She insisted on discussing both politics and religion at the dinner table and was not apologetic about either. Her devotion to her family and her beliefs in the rights of others was unshakable and life shaping for those of us left behind. A boundless energetic soul that shall forever be missed but never forgotten as we continue to travel unknown roads without her. Rita is preceded in death by the love of her life and late husband, Kenneth F. Smith, and survived by her children John Hogeboom (Dawn) of Arizona, Kenneth Smith (Shellie) of Colorado and Rhonda Martin (Travis) of Texas; her beloved grandchildren Katherine Florence and Shannon Marie Hogeboom, Amanda Larson (Wayne), Michael Bundy and great-grandchildren Hayden and Johnathon Larson, all of Arizona. She is also survived by her siblings Frank Sampiere and Gail Virag of New Jersey and scores of Smiths (cherished brother and sister-in-laws) of Arizona, Michigan and Florida. A Mass will be held at 11:00AM Friday, January 29, 2016 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 330 W. Coral Gables, Phoenix 85023. Burial to follow at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, 23015 N. Cave Creek, Phoenix 85024. Funeral arrangements by Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation in her name to The Phoenix Children's Hospital Foundation (Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders) or to a charity of your choosing.
