Robert Clinton Blatchford, a kind and devoted family man, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away at the age of 90 on October 17, 2016. He was born March 5, 1926 in Fort Defiance, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. He served in the US Army Air Corps and the Berlin airlift. He served in The US Air Force and the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed as an electrical engineer by Arizona Public Service Company for 31 years before retiring. His main areas of expertise were fault protection and substation design. His activity in the community included volunteering with the United Way and the Salvation Army Christmas Parties for Needy Children. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Phoenix Indian Center for 13 years, earning an award for his service. He was also supportive of the Disabled American Veterans. Robert along with his wife Shirley volunteered at The Pueblo Grande Museum, earning a honorary lifetime membership to the museum. He is survived by his wife Shirley, two sons Gary and Kevin, all of Phoenix, sister Ruth Kope and brother Benjamin. Robert was preceded in death by sisters Mary Gorman, Irene Corbett, Edith Sakiestewa, Dorothy Blatchford, and brothers Paul, Samuel and Herbert. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to DAV.org. A memorial service will be held at Best Funeral Services, 501 E. Dunlap, Phoenix AZ on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. followed by internment at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix AZ on November 4, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.
