Robert "Bob" Turner Obituary
Turner, Robert "Bob"
Robert "Bob" Turner, born January 16, 1952, passed away on September 28. Bob was a respected and successful business man in the music industry and Phoenix community as well as a fantastic guitar player, singer and songwriter. He was one of those lucky people who lived their passion: he opened a tiny 350sf used guitar store called Bizarre Guitar that, 40 years later, grew into a 5500sf store dealing in vintage, new, and used guitars. It is one of the largest and successful independent guitar stores in the U.S. He was a vintage guitar specialist who was instrumental in documenting the historical value of guitars and has seen - and sold - them all! Bob, who was self-taught and had "perfect-pitch", was active in the rock-n-roll scene in Phoenix since his teens and played many stages, from small to large, dive bars to opening act for the famous (or infamous). He was in several local bands, the last being Sluggo, and played his last gig on the eve of his death. Bob lived in Arrowhead Lakes in Glendale with his long-time love, Susan Alexander, and four rescue dogs: Penny Lane, Rocky Raccoon, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and Love Love Me Doo(ley)... he was a Beatles fan! His home was his refuge, a peaceful place on the lake filled with mementos of his life and musical career. His other passion was animals and he would often come home from a walk with a stray cat or a wounded duck. He will be joining all his pets that have passed before, especially Spike and Skippy. Bob's family was small but very close. He is survived by his sister and best friend, Judy Roberts; his nephew Chris Dalton and wife Kelley; nieces Danielle and Ashley; and the Alexander family. He had many friends and will be greatly missed. Bob was a big personality who made an impression on many lives. Long live the King! The store is his legacy and will remain open and operating as per Bob's wishes. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to Sun Valley Animal Shelter, 7150 N. 110th Ave., Glendale AZ 85307 (623-872-7941). Please post condolences, memories, and happy stories on the online guest book http://www.heritagefuneralchapels.com. There will be a private memorial service for family only with a big jam celebration to follow at a later date. Please check facebook: Bizarre Guitar (Phoenix) in a few weeks for details.
