Robert Verne (Bob) Hendricks aka "Bullet Bob" of Scottsdale AZ, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 from complications of Parkinson's disease on Friday January 25, 2013. Bob is preceded in death by his mother Alvina and father Verne Hendricks and granddaughter Melinda Moosbrugger. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 59 years Patricia Warren, son Edwin and wife Elizabeth, daughter Shelli Moosbrugger and husband Paul, grandchildren Trisha Hendricks, Kristin (Chris) Lutter, Cassandra Hendricks, Michael Moosbrugger and Matthew Moosbrugger. Bob was born in Ajo, AZ on January 13, 1931 where he excelled as an athlete. He went to Arizona State University on a football scholarship where he lettered for four years as quarterback. Bob served in the Air Force where he was a flight chief and played football. Upon graduating from ASU with a BA in Business he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers, but instead chose to get his master's in Education. In 1955 Bob started teaching business and coached football and the State Conference Baseball team at Scottsdale High School. In 1958 he received the YMCA HI-Y Leaders Fellowship of the United States of America award. In 1959 Bob opened Arcadia High School as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach where he coached 2 State Championships and is one of Arizona's most winning coaches and Arizona coach of the year. In 1962 He was a Prep Football All American Coach and received the Phoenix Press Box Association award for Achievement of Meritorious Performance in Arizona Athletics. In 1966 Bob opened Saguaro High School as Assistant Principal. In 1968 he was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa. Bob is a Charter member of the Sun Devil Club and Lifetime member of the ASU Alumni Association. In 1973 Bob became the Principal of Coronado High School one of the largest schools in the state with 3400 students. In 1975 he received the Arizona Athletic Association Leadership award. Bob was President and Past President of the Scottsdale Quarterback club and from 1977-1979 Arizona Athletic Association President. In 1979 Bob returned to Saguaro High School as Principal and retired in 1989 and then became the lead consultant for the Scottsdale Unified School District in charge of the design team for Mountainside Middle School and Desert Mountain High School. In 1986 Bob is a founder of the Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library Inc.. In 1989 Bob was honored in Washington DC for his contribution to the Close-Up program and Arizona Athletic Association Conference Administrator for contribution to Arizona Athletics. In 1991 Bob was one of the first inductees into the City of Scottsdale Sports Hall of Fame and in 2010 he received the Sun Devil Spirit Award for ASU Quarterback Legends. Bob is a member of the Scottsdale Historical Society , Scottsdale Quarterback Club and the American Legion. Bob was an avid ASU fan, hunter and Arizona historian, a talented and creative individual who made beautiful Native American Jewelry, wrought iron and wood furniture. Bob has always been a strong man with high principles a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed. The funeral service for Bob will be on Saturday February 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.at Hansen Mortuary on Bell Road and 64th Street.
