Roderick J "Rod" Andersen Obituary
Andersen, Roderick (Rod) J.
87, of Cave Creek, died peacefully on May 2, 2013. He was born in Rhinebeck, N.Y., on January 5, 1926, and liked to say he was "right off the farm." He served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII with stints in Okinawa and Korea. He married Mildred Stahl on June 22, 1951, and they raised four sons, an accomplishment he was particularly proud of. He founded Andersen Boat Shop in Burnt Hills, N.Y., in the 1950s and, together with wife Millie, built it into a thriving business. They retired to Cave Creek in the 1980s. Andersen and his wife were avid motorhome travelers. Rod also enjoyed tinkering with Chevrolet Corvairs, especially more unique models, and "making sparks" with other projects in his backyard shop. He was preceded in death by wife Millie in 2009, and is survived by his brother Donald Andersen, sons Alan J., Ronald F., Bruce P. and Eric J. Andersen, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A memorial service with military honors will be held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, on Friday, May 17, at 12:30 p.m. Flowers and sentiments are being accepted through May 16 at the Cremation and Burial Chapel, 1130 S. Horne, Mesa, AZ., 480-833-1716.
