Genant, Rodney Walter
72 of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away on September 10, 2015. Rodney Walter Genant, 72, a resident of Gilbert, Arizona, went home to be with our Lord peacefully and at his home, surrounded by his family on September 10, in Gilbert, Arizona. He was a New Year's Eve baby born on December 31, 1942, the oldest of 5 children to Walter and Alfreida Genant in Freeport, Illinois. He grew up in Freeport, graduating from Freeport High School. After he graduated, he joined the US Navy. After honorably serving in the Navy, he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, Chrysler Corporation, AM Lewis for 9 years, and Yellow Freight Systems for 19 years. He retired from Yellow Freight Systems in 2000. He was introduced to the love of his life, Gloria Schnoor on a blind date arranged by his sister Wendy. They had their first date in Dubuque, Iowa, in October of 1966 and were married at Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew, Iowa, on May 20, 1967 (Gloria's Birthday). Rodney was a kind-hearted devout Christian and a man of tremendous faith, with an unwavering love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Rodney loved helping those of less fortune and in need. Whether by offering money, his time or simply his love. He loved going to the gym, swimming in his pool, playing basketball and was very passionate about his music. Particularly Country/ Western and Gospel. He was a member of Grace Community Church for 45 years and in the past had served as an usher and participated in the men's group. Rodney is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gloria Genant; children Renee, Jeffrey and his wife Lisa; grandchildren Megan, Michael, Jillian, Griffin and Josie; siblings Wendy Dummer (Dwayne), Carol Kolthoff (Bob), and Cindy Becke. As well as his nephews, nieces, cousins and numerous in-laws. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Holly Genant. He will be remembered as an extremely loving, compassionate and forgiving husband, father and "Papa". Rodney had a deep and "unconditional" love for his entire family. Services will be held on Thursday, September 17 at Grace Community Church, 1200 E Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282 (www.graceaz.com). Visitation will be held at 12 p.m., Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. Reception will immediately follow Funeral Service at Grace Community Church (light refreshments served). Interment will commence at 3 pm at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park. 6747 East Broadway Road, Mesa, AZ 85206 (www.mariposagardens.com).
