Silvert Mawrence Obituary
Mawrence, Silvert
89, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away on august 27, 2013. Lieutenant Colonel Silvert Mawrence, (USAF Retired), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully August 27, 2013. He was surrounded by loving family members who cherished him for his warmth, kindness and enormous heart. Born in Calumet, Michigan July 14, 1924, Sil volunteered to join the Army Air Corp at the outset of WWII. Exiting the military after WWII he worked in the family business before being recalled to active duty, re-joining the Air Force to serve in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His duties for the Air Force enabled his family to see the world, serving in Italy and Japan in addition to numerous bases in the United States. He received a Bronze Star for bravery in WWII for saving the lives of crewmen trapped in a burning ship hit by a Kamikaze plane. After a successful career as an executive in the private sector, he moved to Scottsdale in 1981 where he happily retired with his wife Nell Marie. He was a fabulous dancer with a wonderful singing voice. His love of music and style live on through his children and grandchildren. Time with family was a priority. In spite of living with Parkinson's, heart failure, and diabetes Sil greeted each day impeccably groomed and with a smile. He never met a stranger, making everyone feel welcome and at ease. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jill Combs and is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nell Marie, two children, Bettina of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Mark of Santa Monica, California, five grandchildren, Aaron, Keli and her husband Dustin, Joshua, Raphael and Oceana, Presley, his beloved great-granddaughter, and his faithful friend Bacci. He will be missed by us all. Interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will take place at a
date to be determined. Arrangements being made by Regency Mortuary, 9850 W. Thunderbird, Sun City, AZ 85351 Memorial donations may be made to Elite Hospice, 660 S. Pinal Parkway, suite 107, Florence, AZ 85132.
