Sonia Levine Obituary
Levine, Sonia
Mar. 19, 1928-Jan. 21, 2016. Sonia (Blum) Levine, 87, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Guardian Care in Peoria, Arizona. Sonia was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Florence and Simon Blum. After graduating from Shaw High School she got married and eventually moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she stayed for the rest of her years. Sonia worked at Ping for many years, until she retired. During her retirement Sonia was very active as a devoted volunteer. She had a warm heart and a deep love of animals, especially cats, so she spent time with her furry friends at the Arizona Humane Society in Sunnyslope. She also volunteered at the nearby hospital, and as a member of the Sunnyslope Historical Society. She had a great sense of humor and laughed often. Sonia was hooked on chocolate, and jokingly considered herself a "chocoholic". Sonia loved her cats, Bigfoot, Simba, Sunny, and Nudnik. She also loved the beautiful Arizona landscape, including the many varieties of plant life and flowers that are native to that climate. She was an energetic and beautiful lady who enjoyed hiking, always wore turquoise jewelry, and loved the color purple. She lived a life of gratitude, thankful for all that she had, and never asking for more. One of her favorite quotes was: "Happiness doesn't depend on how much you have to enjoy, but how much you enjoy what you have." She was an amazing example of this, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her precious son Steven Mark Levine (1953), and her loving parents Florence and Simon Blum. Sonia is survived by her dear brother Roger Blum and his wife Marilyn; her nieces Lee Shetina, Sharon Benner, Laura Palumbo, Kathy Plaga; and her nephew Robert Blum, and their families. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Guardian Care in Peoria for their wonderful care and support. Contributions in memory of Sonia Levine can be made to the Desert Mission Food Bank, 9229 N. 4th St., Phoenix, AZ, 85020, (602) 870-6062; or The Arizona Humane Society, 9226 N. 13th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021, (602) 997-7586.
