Singer, Stanford Paul
77, of Sun City, AZ passed away after a short illness on June 10, 2016 . Born and raised in Evansville he was an alumni and former teacher at Mater Dei High School. A university professor, writer and historian he received his BA from U of Evansville ('63), his MA from Indiana University ('67) and his Ph.D. from UCLA ('87). He taught at UCLA, ASU, Cal State SB and Scottsdale College. He was passionate about film history and publishing numerous articles. He spoke for the AZ Humanities Council and was active in several national film organizations. An avid traveler, he lived the last 30 years in Phoenix, AZ. He was known not only for his intelligence but for his wit, generous nature, and loving personality. He touched everyone he met and was still beloved by students he had taught 50 years ago. He passed away surrounded by his family and wife of 40 years, Lenna DeMarco. He is survived by children Stefanie Woolverton (John Villa), MIchelle Goldberg, Sean Singer, Shannon Norris (Todd), grandchildren Melissa Figueroa (Frank), Hannah Reynolds (Scott)), Matt Woolverton, Eli Younger, Daniel Torres, Haille Norris and Taylor Norris; great-grandchildren Chelsea, Chris, Andrew, Max and Iggy. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Stan Singer Excellence in Writing Award Endowment at Mater Dei High School in Evansville, Ind.
