Stephen Robert Warsaw Obituary
Warsaw, Stephen Robert
4-28-28 - 9-4-16. Son of Stephen Taylor Warsaw, a commercial photographer, and Christine Marie (Meehan), a talented painter and sculptor, who instilled independence, creativity and excellence. His extended Irish-American family added a sense of humor. He was raised in New Haven, CT, on Long Island Sound. A sailor from age five, he raced everything from one-designs to large boats: the Newport-Bermuda Race was a special favorite. A great crewmate, fine helmsman and sail trimmer, he was equally happy cruising. He loved good food and wine, and was an excellent saucier. He served as a naval aviator in Korea, then joined Warsaw Studios in NYC. Later career moves took him into advertising. Naval service put an end to his college, but also made him an avid, self-directed student of real estate, finance, astrophysics (!), computers and political history. In Carefree, he was active in Monday Morning Tennis, Kiwanis, Foothills Community Foundation, and Arizona Musicfest. Steve was a wonderful, loving husband to Chris; also surviving are son, Brett, daughter, Robin; in-laws Sharon Purdue, Kim Hopper & Nancy Travers, Michael & Ann Hopper, and their families. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, 9/17/16, from 3 - 6 pm at Messinger Mortuary (8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, 85255). Memorials may be sent to the Carefree Kiwanis Scholarship Program (PO Box 1498, Carefree 85377) or Arizona Musicfest (PO Box 25455, Scottsdale 85255).
