Susie V. Vineyard Obituary
Vineyard, Susie V.
Susie Vastine Vineyard, 92, passed peacefully on November 19, 2016. Susie was born December 17, 1923 in the now ghost town of Endee, New Mexico; a town described in the 1880's as so tough that a trench was dug on Saturday nights to bury the gunfight losers from Sunday. Susie, as far as we know, was never involved in a gunfight, but she did grow up on a farm where she learned to milk cows, shuck corn, and hull peas. These skills proved handy as the fourth youngest of 11 siblings growing up in the depression era. As a young woman, she moved to Amarillo, Texas working for the Bureau of Reclamation where she met and fell in love with a young man recently returned from the CBI Theater of World War II. They soon married and had three children, building a life on a love for the Lord, a love for each other, and a love for their family. In 1967, the family moved to Mesa, Arizona where she worked for many years in the office of Arizona State University. Susie loved to crochet and many afghans can be found throughout the southwest. Susie was generous with her time and resources and made friends with all those she encountered. Her favorite quotation was "there is always, always, always something to be thankful for." She was the embodiment of Scripture of Philippians 4:4-5-"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all people. The Lord is at hand." She is preceded in death by her mother, father husband, Roy, of 60 years and 6 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by her three children, daughter Linda (Don) Pewitt, son Jerry (Ruth) Vineyard, daughter Peggy (John) Byrd, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She will be missed. A memorial service will be held Saturday November 26, 2016 at College View Baptist Church, 1810 S. Longmore, Mesa, Arizona at 2 pm. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery.
